Art and Craft for Kids are great ways to help them learn how to become creative in their thinking. In addition not only being a great way to enhance their creative talents, it is also proven to be a good way for you to bond with your children while participating in projects together. To assist in the process, use the following guidelines.

Lose the rigid boundaries. Some adults have a difficult time relinquishing control over the process and set constraints that stifle a child’s creative process. Learn to let go.

Let them make a mess. A drop of glue, splash of paint, or spilled piece of glitter can send some people over the edge. Plan for the mess. Place plastic on the table and floors and old clothes on the kids. Go with the flow.

Respect the child’s pace. Some kids slap on paint with wild abandon, while others putter and work diligently. Respect their technique.

Positive comments only. You can dislike a child’s artwork but you don’t have to say that out loud or lie. Negative comments are destructive to a child’s self-esteem and creative process. Keep them to yourself. Instead you could say something like, “I really like how you used that color” or “I love the shape.” A simple “nice” could suffice.

Let the child do it. Kids learn through doing. No matter how clumsy or uncoordinated their efforts are, they are mastering the skill through their struggle. If you have to assist the child, try a hand-over-hand approach.

Understand kids can have very short attention spans. Developmentally, attention span increases with age and is individual to each child. Let the child decide when their creation is finished. Forcing a child to continue when they are ready to quit creates a power struggle.

Join in and make your own crafts. Creating with your child is a great way to spend time together. Don’t worry about your lack of ability. Just have fun.

Ask the child what they like about their creation. It is important that children learn to recognize their strengths and accept who they are. Children who are self-critical tend to be negative and less happy.

Interact and talk during craft time. While this is not the time to get into heavy conversation, you can ask questions about what the child is creating and how they will proceed. Follow the lead of the child.

Making art allows the individual to express emotions, not only with language, through symbolic displays of their responses to their world. It becomes another language, a rich and useful language that is being learned. It is an enhancement to living fully by helping people understand life and respond to issues in a fresh way.

The quality of life is richer because there is more attention to the beauties of the world. This includes the blending and seeing of colour, form, value, line, pattern, texture, detail and so much more and in such diverse combinations and manifestations.

Art has room in it for all kinds of expression. The distance between being able to create and not depends on what learning is desired, the instructor’s ability to pass on ways of working in the visual arts, exposure to the art of others, a looking at the world around us, and a honing of skills which definitely can be taught and most importantly, to be learned.

Skill in art builds on skill, and time, and the doing. One way of enjoying art is in the enjoyment inherent in the making of art, in the process of creating art. There is, of course, a further enjoyment in the looking at and the analyzing of the creative expression of other artists, seeing it as a ribbon of visual history, a connection to and the study of cultures.

It allows the brain to sing and dance, swirl around in joyous abandon and to release the stranglehold of propriety that adulthood may impose. It gives imagination wings and encourages it to soar to unknown and delightful heights.

Is art not a wonderful way to communicate? It offers an opportunity for multicultural communities to interact, for those without verbal language for any number of reasons, a way to reach out, to express joys and sorrows.

It allows ways to access new strengths and new skills and to seek enrichment for the soul because there is never any end to ways of working in the visual arts, no end to the learning that can transpire, other ways to see the same thing, no end to the seeking and yearning and looking and fulfillment.

Visual arts are a class of art forms that include: painting, sculpture, photography, and other disciplines that focus on the creation of artworks which are primarily visual in nature. Visual arts are said to be important in schools since they tend to develop the intelligence, as well as the overall personality of students. In fact, studies have shown that students who are exposed to visual arts tend to display above average intelligence when it comes to mathematics and science.

Moreover, visual arts provide meaningful self-expression of all students. This is also the reason why a great number of educators have integrated visual arts in some of their subject areas in the curriculum. Visual arts educators make use of rich arrays of content to design curriculum that will enable students to be able to meet various standards at different grade levels.

In order to meet the standards, students must be able to learn vocabularies as well as some concepts that are associated with diverse types of work in the visual arts. Likewise, students are expected to exhibit their competence in various levels in visual, oral, and written form. As early as kindergarten, children are taught how to make choices that would enhance the communication of their creative ideas.

Students that are in the middle grades are expected to apply the knowledge as well as the skills in the visual arts to their ever-expanding personal world. Students at this level tend to consider visual art works within its historical concepts that creates in them a deeper appreciation of their own values, and likewise appreciate the values of others and somehow discover the connection of visual arts to the universal needs of people in terms of their values and beliefs.

Students in the higher levels are expected to create more complex and insightful works of visual arts that will reflect the maturation of their creative as well as their problem-solving skills. And although, visual arts classes make use of varied tools, techniques, and processes, students are expected to understand the relationship of different types of media, styles, forms, techniques as well as some of the processes involved in the creation of their own form of visual art. Students are also taught how to recognize the intrinsic value of visual arts and what makes it important in the lives of all educated persons.

Visual arts are also used in therapy procedures for aiding child development. Visual arts assist in educating disabled children, especially those who are blind and have hearing problems. Aside from that, visual arts also help in building communities, mural projects, and are also used to provide education for mentally ill individuals.

Art has long been a source of peace and prosperity for many people in this world. Visual arts are a big draw for many as they create the aesthetic appeal to the nature of the artist that most find fascinating. Knowing the artist on a more personal level through their work is how many will associate a great artist from one who lacks confidence and talent.

The visual arts encompass things like sculpture, painting and so on. The basis of visual arts is that of productions meant to entertain through the eyes without use of song, speech or writing. The artist is trying to make a point by the concept he or she has put together without having to speak about the topic. So in truth the artist is telling a story by using the visual images and how they transform into words in our brain. The feelings aroused when a person sees a particular piece of art is the idea behind visual art.

Throughout the history of the world there has been visual art in one form or another. Even the early days of man have shown us that we were interested in communicating with one another through art. Cave drawings depict hunts and so on that we as the modern day people attempt to interpret to learn more about the times. Art was thought to be the only form of communication that was available making it more appealing to the other people alive at the time.

When you move forward through history you see that visual art has played a major role in the culture of the countries around the world. This comes on the heels of the fact that many artists never realized any kind of fame or fortune during their lifetime as their work did not become appreciated until centuries later.

Case and point of this would be Vincent Van Gough. He was plagued by his own insecurity and addictions. His work was outside of the norm and hence it was not accepted by the art community of his time. Van Gough would spend his relatively short life painting but never selling. Today there is nothing shy of an extreme demand for his work.

The other side of the coin would be those artists that found fame and fortune during their life time and still have a huge following to this day. Leonardo Da Vinci is a prime example. Da Vinci was a highly popular painter and sculpture in his time and he had the attention of the royal family which gave him carte blanche on his work.

Bronze sculpting is a medium of alloy metal that has been around for centuries, and even had an era time period named after it, called the Bronze Age. The artistically beautiful works of bronze sculpture has literally been around since ancient times. What first was sculpted from stone eventually became sculpted from bronze throughout Egypt, India, Greece, Rome and the rest of the world. Bronze was not originally specifically the cherished sculpting metal that it is today. Before the coming of the bronze sculptures, the bronze metal its self was originally used in the makings of weaponry and other useful items. But with the uniqueness of expanding within the casting so well to details, bronze soon was recognized as a wonderful sculpture material.

Along with the ease of detail of bronze sculptures, there also became a cherished uniqueness of outer changing beauty that only happens with bronze, and that is the patina that begins to happen over time to the outer layers of any bronze. Although patina is the changing of the outer bronze colors naturally, there has also been the artificial ways of getting many patina color variations for the beautification and for the looks of natural antiquity of the bronze sculpture its self. Artificial patina being applied upon the sculptures of bronze was highly popular during the Renaissance period just for the purpose of making a bronze sculpture seemingly look as if it is of one from antique collections.

These artificial effects would create the exact replicas of antiquity with the colors of greens, browns and all in between variances of natural bronze aging shades. But in the late 19th Century and the early 20th Century, with the desires for the artificially coloring of bronze took a completely different turn toward an expansion with many different colorful variations. With the chemical coloring expansion of bronze, there are many bronze artists of today that love to experiment with the numerous chemical ways of bringing out a wide number of colorful reactions upon their bronze artwork.

There is not only a fun point of classic uniqueness when an artist truly has learned the many wonderful techniques of modern day artificial patina, but there is a necessity and desire to know these many methods of patina so be able to properly repair severely damaged bronze statues and other bronze artworks. For those who truly respect the natural artist beauty of the Bronze sculpture that they have collected, there is a dire need to have it properly repaired as if the damage had never happened to begin with.
